micropigmentation

Procedure Time: varies depending on the treatment area and desired results

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) uses specialized tattooing techniques to create tiny, hairlike dots that mimic the appearance of closely shaved hair or add the illusion of density to thinning areas. With careful attention to pigment color, placement, and spacing, SMP can help create a more defined hairline, reduce the contrast between hair and scalp, and camouflage certain scars.

Micropigmentation can also be used to enhance the appearance of facial hair, including beards, mustaches, and sideburns. For clients with sparse or patchy growth, tattooed pigment can create the appearance of greater density and definition.

Every treatment is customized to your features, existing hair, skin, and goals. Scalp and facial hair micropigmentation require different approaches, and we'll discuss what's realistic for your particular situation during your consultation.

what can micro

pigmentation help with?

Scalp micropigmentation may be an option for people experiencing:

  • Pattern hair loss: Creating the look of a closed shaved head or adding the appearance of density to thinning areas.

  • Alopecia: Camouflaging certain types of hair loss, depending on the condition and the skin's suitability for treatment.

  • Scalp scars: Reducing the contrast between scars and surrounding scalp or hair, including scars from hair transplant procedures, surgery, or injury.

  • Hair transplant results: Creating the appearance of additional density where transplanted hair hasn't provided the fullness you wanted.

  • Gender affirming hairline work: Exploring a hairline or overall look that better reflects your gender expression.

Facial micropigmentation may help with:

  • Sparse or patchy beards: Adding the appearance of density in areas where facial hair grows unevenly.

  • Mustache and beard definition: Enhancing the visual outline or fullness of existing facial hair.

  • Sideburn enhancement: Creating a more defined appearance that works with your hairstyle and facial features.

  • Gender affirming facial hair: Helping transmasculine and nonbinary clients explore the appearance of a fuller mustache, beard, or sideburns.

Micropigmentation creates the appearance of hair or density, but it doesn't produce hair growth or treat the underlying cause of hair loss. Results depend on the treatment area, skin, existing hair, and desired look. Tattooed pigment also changes over time, so maintenance may eventually be needed.

Gender affirming micropigmentation

Your appearance is personal, and there's no single way to look masculine, feminine, or androgynous. Micropigmentation can be one tool for brining your appearance closer to how you want to present yourself.

For transmasculine and nonbinary clients, facial hair micropigmentation can help create the appearance of a fuller beard of mustache, add definition to the sideburns, or explore a particular facial hair shape. Scalp micropigmentation can also be used to customize a hairline or address thinning hair.

For transfeminine clients, scalp micropigmenatation may help camouflage areas of thinning hair or scars. Hairline and camouflage work can be tailored to your features and personal goal, without assuming there's one look you're supposed to achieve.

We'll work together to discuss your goals, the options available, and what micropigmentation can realistically accomplish for you. You don't need to fit a particular beauty standard to deserve an approach that feels right for you.

what to expect

Scalp micropigmentation commonly takes multiple sessions, with healing time between appointments. The number of sessions and time requir3d depend on the size of the area, the condition of the skin, and the result you're looking for. Facial hair treatments may follow a different schedule.

Results and pigment longevity vary with skin characteristics, sun exposure, lifestyle, and other factors. Micropigmentation is a tattooing procedure and the pigment may soften over time.

Because tattooing can irritate the skin, active inflammation or certain scalp and skin conditions may mean treatment needs to be postponed or may not be appropriate. We'll discuss your skin health, treatment history, and goals before deciding whether to proceed.
